I screwed up I am moving into 547 riverdale. Sorry about that. I still really want to be involved
Hi Gwen,

I don't know whether others will reply in time for you to meet your deadline, but I can see no reason not to. Feel free, and thanks for taking this initiative. / jd

Hi Marnie:

I meant to quote Lori on the OOS website: worry not! My mistake. I have now asked Lori correctly.

Thanks,
Gwen

Hi Marnie:

Can I put the gist of this on the Old Ottawa South website today? It will go out tonight in our e-newsletter to several hundred subscribers. I can make the contact different, (such as "contact webeditor@oldottawasouth.ca") instead of yours, if you prefer.

I'm really keen on supporting this initiative! (And eventually getting a little plot of my own, too.)

Cheers,
Gwen

Update on status of community garden planning

Howdy all, just wanted to give a brief update on where this idea has gone.

* I've gathered together a handful of volunteers who want to help establish the garden.

* We presented the community garden idea to OS Watch, the Ottawa South Community Association committee that deals with land use & development issues, and they passed a motion supporting the idea, in principle, of a community garden for the neighbourhood

* We identified a few possible locations for a future garden:

* The open grass area at the far east end of Windsor Park. (Just before the Belmont Ave. entrance).

* The land behind the Lexington apartments (Ottawa Community Housing building) at 507 Riverdale. It seems this patch of land (the grass area, bordered by trees) is owned partly by OCH, and partly by the city as part of Windsor Park.

* A couple spots in Brewer Park

Does anyone know someone who lives in the 507 Riverdale apartments? It would be fantastic to get some of the residents involved and supportive of this.

As always, anyone interested in helping out with establishing the garden, please email me at bellybuh@yahoo.ca and I will keep you in the loop!
Hi Gwen, thanks for posting this in the e-newsletter, good idea! (and sorry I didn't get a chance to respond b4 the deadline.) In the future, pls. feel free to include my contact info: bellybuh@yahoo.ca. (at some point maybe we'll set up a proper email account for the community garden group)

Marnie: great that you are interested! I will add you to the list of people to keep in the loop. Can you please send your email address to me? If you want to chat about ideas you have and how you want to be involved in the planning stage, please let me know!

Cheers,

Lori
Hi Lori:

Since you didn't have a chance to email me before my deadline, I took it upon myself to add the article to www.oldottawasouth.ca. I'm glad you think that's alright. We are more than willing to post anything about your initiative on the website, and encourage you to come to the next board meeting and pitch your ideas--and actually, the board is short a few people and would welcome you as a member, and work on the ECOS committee! Contact osca@oldottawasouth.ca for more details about it.

All others are also welcome. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of September. (Check the OSCA website events calendar for the exact date.)

Cheers,
Gwen

Hi Gwen,

Is anything happening with the community garden initiative?

Marnie

Not that I know of. I believe Lori Waller was going to contact the community association directly about getting an endorsement letter, but that was a few months ago. There is a board meeting in two weeks, so perhaps I will hear then.

Can you get in touch with Lori Waller? It is almost time to garden!

best,

Marnie

Our last contact the ball was in her court: hope she gets this and her her email is above in this thread too. Go for it!

Hi all,

It's very unlikely that we will have anything set up in time for this growing season; it's going to take time to settle on a location, draw up an agreement on use of the site, develop rules for the community garden group, etc.

I'm going to go to the OSCA meeting next Tuesday April 18 to request a letter of support to give to the city. The meeting is at the Old Firehall, and I'm on the agenda for sometime between 8 and 9:30 pm. Anyone who supports the community garden idea, please do come out to the meeting to show your support!

Cheers,

Lori

PS: I don't use this site very often, so the best way to get a hold of me about garden stuff is to email me at oosgarden@gmail.com.
