I heard about Transition Towns (TT) only a few days ago, and it immediately captivated my attention. I read through the TT website, and did not see Ottawa on the list, so the first thing I did was create a Facebook group to try and spread the word about the initiative. Then I got in contact with the founder of the Peterborough TT and discovered that an this group had already begun a TT for Ottawa. I strongly believe in the initiative and I would like to play an active role in its course of development. From what I can tell there wasn't already a Facebook group in place . . . is any one opposed to my keeping the Facebook group? I would obviously inform the Facebook members of this site, but keep them connected through Facebook as well.
I'd like to hear what you have to say. I look forward to getting to know you,
Andrea, I can't think of any reason why anyone could possibly object. On the contrary, the more ways there are of spreading the word, the better.
For some reason, many of the "Transition" movements seem to have gravitated to the Ning network for their web presences (if you do a social network search here on Ning, you'll find what must now be hundreds of towns, villages and city transition web sites from dozens of countries), so it feels as if we're in good company here.
For an example of one of the more well-developed sites, see Transition Colorado.
We're pretty new here ourselves, but we're contacting the TT folks to get ourselves on their list and beginning to explore the process of getting formally recognized as a Transition Town.
Let us all know, perhaps by another entry in this discussion, what your Facebook group is called and we'll list the link in our Resources section under "The Well Pump"
