Building Community Resilience Through Action

Hidden Harvest Ottawa

Hidden Harvest Ottawa

Our trees can feed more people.

Hidden Harvest Ottawa (HHO) seeks to ensure Ottawa's fruit and nuts are valued, picked, and shared. A social enterprise launching this harvest season, HHO will support Ottawa's urban orchard through services including selling edible trees, tree maintenance, and organizing harvest events in several neighbourhoods of Ottawa for the first year of this project.

HHO will be seeking Lead Harvesters to organize community harvest events in their neighbourhood (training provided), as well has volunteer harvesters and tree owners who would like the bounty from their edible trees to be put to good use.

Together we will make good use of healthy, local food that is under-used in our neighbourhood!

This is a great initiative for Ottawa, and all our other municipalities, too, for that matter. We should be thinking of our urban forests re-invented as urban 'agroforests', producers of food, too, as well as all the other healthful benefits urban trees bring to wellbeing. For example, Ottawa's urban agroforest has hundreds of mature edible-nut bearing trees producing thousands of bushels of fresh nuts annually. Lets go nuts!
