Profile Information

What attracted you to become a member?
I am a member of the Environmental Working Group of my congregation (First Unitarian). I have become deeply concerned about peak oil and climate change and what will happen to the economy and environment of the National Capital Region over the coming decades . T.O. addresses these issues in a positive practical way.
If you are from the Ottawa area, in what neighbourhood area do you live (i.e. Nepean, Centre Town, Glebe, Vanier, etc.)
Lowertown east of King Edward
Would you like to be part of a transition initiative in your neighbourhood?
What issues are you interested in (Check as many as apply)?
Home energy power down, Local food resilience, Public transport, Joyous simple living
What are your skills (Professional and amateur)?
writing and editing, gardening
How would you like to see Ottawa look and feel in the future?
Ottawa and area are a natural bioregion but residents are barely aware of this. I would like to see a strong local flavour in our food and drink, our clothing and housing, with local farmers and entrepreneurs thriving in nearby markets. Less electronic and more live entertainment. Walkable neighbourhoods and efficient public transport.
What part would you like to contribute to this?
I am very interested in gardening and supporting local agriculture. I also enjoy writing and facilitating communication through clear reporting and description of events.

Community Shared Agriculture - looking for a CSA farmer for West Ottawa drop-off point

Hello Transitioners,

We are looking for a local farmer interested in entering into a CSA agreement with members of our congregation and others in West Ottawa, for the 2010 growing season.

The drop-off point for all members who have bought a share would be at First Unitarian Congregation, 30 Cleary Avenue, near Richmond and Woodroffe. Our group will ensure that members pick up their boxes from the church building.

If you know a farmer and can put him/her in touch… Continue

Thanks for your comment, Alastaire. You could, if you wish, list the Environmental Working Group at First Unitarian Congregation in our 'Groups' section. To do so, simply go to the 'Groups' tab, click 'add a group' and fill in the details. This would provide visibility and a contact point for your group on the site. If the Environmental Working Group has a web address, it can also be listed there. Cheers / jd
