- What attracted you to become a member?
- I believe there is a lot of potential in local responses to world-wide sustainability challenges. Tapping this potential requires both long-term planning and immediate and ongoing action to build momentum and understanding. The transition concept offers the potential to work at both ends of the spectrum.
- If you are from the Ottawa area, in what neighbourhood area do you live (i.e. Nepean, Centre Town, Glebe, Vanier, etc.)

- Would you like to be part of a transition initiative in your neighbourhood?
- Yes
- What issues are you interested in (Check as many as apply)?
- Local food resilience, Solar/wind energy, Community building, Greening Ottawa, Other
- What are your skills (Professional and amateur)?
- Organizational development, strategic planning, facilitation, partnership building, project management, communication. Throughout my career as a consultant and civil servants, I have worked with stakeholders from virtually all sectors.
- How would you like to see Ottawa look and feel in the future?
- Re-localization (providing for a much more significant proportion of basic needs -- food, energy, building materials etc. -- locally) will help to re-establish a more intimate and diverse set of relationships with earth. This will not only help bring us into better balance environmentally, it will also enrich us socially and culturally. Greater local diversity within a still strongly interconnected world sounds good to me!

- Helping to create and support a network of local-community transition initiatives, similar to SLOE and SLOWest.

Need another reason to question oil addiction? Poison Fire - a documentary on gas flaring in the Niger delta.
This film moved me greatly with the stark images of uncompensated devastation wrought on the land, villages and people of the delta, largely by Shell Oil; and with the intelligent perspectives, authentic reactions and overly-patient activism of local people.

Re Poison Fire,
I haven't watched the video, but we are being poisoned in Alberta and Saskatchewan too with flaring. Fully nine % of Canada's Greenhouse Gas emissions are the result of flaring or what is quaintly called Fugitive Emissions. Essentially, these are pipeline leaks, facility leaks, and purposeful releases of excess gas (flaring) that the petroleum industry has not bothered to fix or prevent. Check out Environment Canada's National GHG Inventory report.
I was the GHG inventory Project Manager one year. It's a very eye-opening experience.
